Mom wrestles her 5-year-old son out of the jaws of a mountain Lion

A mom hears screams outside her Aspen Colorado home, where her son had been playing. She quickly runs outside to meet the most chilling sight ever. Her 5-year-old son was being attacked by a mountain lion. The predator was completely hunched over her son, biting him. The brave mom charged at the animal and yanked off one his paws, to discover that all of her son’s head was inside the mouth of the lion.

This super mom who has been described as a hero was not deterred by the horrifying sight. She fought the lion, tore at the jaws of the big cat and wrestled her son out. She then scooped him and ran away.

“She was able to pry the cat’s jaws open,” Pitkin County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Buglione said. “She’s a hero.”

The Hero mom whose name wasn’t revealed, was said to have suffered bite marks on her hand and scratches on her leg; while her son suffered deep cuts to his head, face and neck, and was flown to Children’s Hospital in Denver.

According to ABC News, Colorado is home to a lot of mountain lions with about 4500 wandering about for food, and sometimes even getting into the urban areas. However attacks are rare, with 3 death cases and 18 injury cases reported since 1990.

The lion in the Aspen attack was said to be about 2 years old and not fully grown. “It wasn’t a big cat,” Buglione said. “Had it been a 110-pound lion – which I’ve seen around here – this would have been a much different story.”

Following the attack, two mountain lions in the vicinity were killed and were being examined.
