Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie awarded an Honorary Degree by Johns Hopkins University

Nigerian award winning novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was on wednesday 18th May, awarded an honorary degree by the Johns Hopkins University. During the school’s universitywide 2016 commencement which held at Royal Farms Arena, downtown Baltimore, the honorary degree was conferred on her, alongside other 8 recipients. Nobel prize winner and Neuroscientist, Dr. Richard Axel; Philantropist and Maryland’s first woman to become an administrative Circuit Court judge, Ellen M. Heller; and acclaimed film maker, Spike Lee, were among the distinguished recipients of the award.

“Eat real food as often as you can. And embrace ignorance. Say those words ‘I don’t know’. Because by embracing ignorance you open up the possibility of knowledge”, advised Chimamanda to the graduating class, in a video released by the school to mark the ceremony.
