Want to post your kid’s picture on social media? “Think twice” says Betty Irabor

Posting children’s photos on social media has always been a very controversial topic. Some people say it’s a violation of  privacy, as these children are not old enough to decide what or how much of themselves they want on social media. Others suggest posting these pictures online lays an easy bait for pedophiles, who can use these photos for their nefarious activities.

A vast majority on the other hand, think it’s completely safe and a good way of letting their friends and family keep up and fawn over their kids. It’s undeniable that children are such little cherubs and it can be so hard to resist posting their cuteness all over social media.

Betty Irabor, media businesswoman and Editor-in-chief of fashion and lifestyle magazine – Genevieve, has given her opinion on the matter. She addressed the potential dangers of posting kid’s pictures on social media with the following post on Facebook:

With all the kidnapping going on, parents may need to think twice before posting pictures of their kids on social media. I once saw a picture posted by an actor of himself and daughter in school uniform. I knew the school uniform because my daughter attended the same school. Imagine if someone wanted to kidnap that child; they know where to lay siege. Let’s exercise restraint when posting family pictures as well as the information we inadvertently provide to those who may be predators.
